Biography
Cihat Burak was born in Istanbul in 1915. He completed his secondary education at Galatasaray High School. In 1943, he received his bachelor's degree in Architecture from the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. Between 1953 and 1955, he went to France on a United Nations scholarship, and between 1961 and 1965, he went to Paris on a scholarship from the French government to study painting techniques and prefabricated construction methods. Between 1976 and 1992, he worked on printmaking, first in Süleyman Saim Tekcan's studio on Kuyubaşı Aralık Street, then in Tekcan's studio in Söğütlüçeşme, and at the Çamlıca Art House. He passed away in Istanbul in 1994. Throughout his life, Burak participated in many exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad, and received numerous awards, including the Paris-Utrillo Competition Silver Medal, the State Painting and Sculpture Museum Contemporary Turkish Painting First Prize, and the Sedat Simavi Foundation Visual Arts Award.
