Biography
Himmet Öcal graduated from the Painting Department of Anadolu University in 1974. Between 1977 and 1979, he taught Painting and Art History at Kayseri Education Institute and Antalya Aksu Education Institute. During and after his school years, he received practical training in original printmaking and screen printing techniques in the workshop of Prof. Dr. Süleyman Saim Tekcan. In 1979, he started his freelance career in Antalya with graphic design and screen printing applications. For 12 years, he taught "Graphic Design and Visual Communication" courses at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Süleyman Demirel University and Akdeniz University. For 42 years in Antalya, he has been creating logos and emblems for corporate firms, local governments, and non-governmental organizations, primarily in the tourism sector, and creating brands with his visual designs. He has published a book titled "29 Years" featuring his logo and emblem works. He has never lost touch with an art-filled life, establishing Antalya's first private art gallery and enabling the exhibition of works by many famous artists to this day. Throughout his years contributing to graphic design education at universities, he ensured that his students received practical training at his printing center, striving to prepare them for the market with much better skills, and never abandoning his role as an educator. While his art developed expressive influences during his painting education, after 30 years he shifted towards abstract and conceptual works. In his compositions, which adhere to the rules of plastic arts, the concepts, shapes, letters, and numbers that shape people's lives retain their original meaning and function. The artist's works create layers of color depth and perspective within themselves. He aims to deepen the visual depth he creates in the viewer, also in the realm of thought, through abstract colors.
