Biography
Nurullah Berk was born in Istanbul in 1906. He completed his secondary education at Galatasaray High School. In 1924, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, in the studios of Hikmet Onat and İbrahim Çallı, and graduated. Between 1924 and 1928, he worked in the Ernest Laurent studio at the Paris School of Fine Arts. In 1932, he went to Paris for a second time, working for a year in the private academies of master painters such as Andre Lhote and Fernard Leger. In 1933, he participated in the founding of the D Group with five friends. In 1939, he joined the teaching staff of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts and continued his work there until 1968. In 1976, he worked on printmaking in Süleyman Saim Tekcan's studio on Kuyubaşı Aralık Street. He was one of the first artists to work in this studio. He passed away in Istanbul in 1981.
