Biography

Sırma Olcay Kefeli was born in Istanbul in 1968. She graduated from Istanbul American Robert College in 1985. During her high school years, she attended the Seta Hidiş Workshop, where she was introduced to the liberating world of creativity, design, and art. She then went to London for higher education, completing her Visual Communication Design studies at UAL/London College of Communication. She worked as a freelance designer on corporate identity and illustration-focused projects. From 1991 onwards, she studied engraving with Prof. Süleyman Saim Tekcan at the Artess Çamlıca Art Workshop. Between 1995 and 1996, she worked at the Ariel Peeri Design Studio in New York, participating in corporate identity and editorial design projects for international companies. After returning to Istanbul, she worked as a museum artist at İMOGA from 2005 to 2008. In 2008, prints from a joint exhibition with Nuran Ünsal at İMOGA were used in the interior design of the Four Seasons Bosphorus Hotel. In 2009, he moved to his own studio in Kuruçeşme; his work has been featured in group exhibitions and private collections both in Turkey and abroad. After participating in the Creativity Workshop led by Shelley Berc and Alejandro Fogel in 2012, he conducted research focusing on the creative process and the dissemination of creativity throughout society. In his second solo exhibition in 2013, he combined engraving techniques with digital printing to create a layered visual language. The artist, who considers original printmaking a meditative and educational experience, continued his work in his Kuruçeşme Studio.
